Scandal


Scandal is a breakout hit for ABC. The drama starring Kerry Washington as a political aide who runs a Crisis Management firm who deals with problems in and around Washington. The show focuses on Washington’s character Olivia Pope. She works as the White House Director of Communications but is having an affair with the president. It was revealed in the first episode that Mellie, Fitz’s wife, is aware of the affair. Olivia first met Fitz Grant when Cyrus called her in to help with the campaign. Their meeting is shown in the flashbacks of the season one episode The Trail. Olivia then resigns from the White House and forms Olivia Pope & Associates.

In season 2 Olivia Pope begins dating Senator Edison Davidson, who she was engaged to prior. Edison even proposed to Pope for the second time around but she turned down the proposal.
The synopsis of the series is loosely based off Judy Smith. Her work in Crisis Management is what inspired creator Shonda Rhimes to write the series. She was reportedly instrumental in guiding the Bush administration through the controversies surrounding the nomination of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. While working for the White House, she also helped navigate through other crises including the 1991 Gulf War and relations with Kuwait and the Iran–Contra affair. Judy also represented Monica Lewinsky and the Chandra Levy family.

On the first episode viewers are introduced to Olivia Pope’s newest hire Quinn Perkins who initially believed she was on a blind date which turned out to be an interview for Olivia’s firm. On staff at the new firm are fresh-faced lawyer Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes); smooth talking litigator Harrison Wright (Columbus Short); investigator Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield); and computer hacker with a CIA past Huck (Guillermo Diaz).

The series has been running for 3 seasons. Shonda Rhimes posted on twitter on May 10, 2013 that ABC ordered a third season of Scandal. Horray gladiator and fans we get another season of the “OMG moments”. Premiere date has been announced, Thursday, October 3rd; with a full 22 episodes ordered. The first half (first ten episodes) will air back-to-back, a short break, then the season will end with the last half (last twelfth episodes) also back-to-back. Season 3 premiered October 3 2013.
